Q: What will it cost me to become a Vacation 800 Travel Network agent?

A: An initial refundable fee is only $50.00 and you get that back if you sell two commissionable trips within the first six months.  That’s only one trip every 3 months.  (Commission is paid after the trip is completed)

Q: After the initial refundable fee, are there any other monthly or annual renewal fees?

A: No.  Simple as that.

Q: How come other similar travel networks charge so much for initial fees, annual renewal fees, set-up fees, etc.?

A: That’s a very good question.  Some travel networks can charge close to $600.00 for an initial fee and then as much as $550.00 annually thereafter.  And then they charge for setting up internet connections and a monthly fee as well?  Apparently they have other ways of generating income as opposed to helping their agents sell travel.  And those agents get about the same benefits as a host of other networks.  How much sense does any of this make?

Q: Who and/or what is the Vacation 800 Travel Network?

A: The Vacation 800 Travel Network is a division of Cruise World Travel, Inc., dba Cruise 800.  Cruise 800 has been professional travel agency that has served clients throughout the United States and Canada for more than 30 years.  We’ve been called a “small company with a large footprint.”  So after three decades in the travel industry, it was decided to give home-based agents the chance to capitalize on the opportunities our reputation affords them.

Q; How is the Vacation 800 Travel Network different?

A: The biggest different is the availability we have for marketing.  Vacation 800 Travel Network Professional Travel Partners are offered monthly advertisements in print and digital publications in a number of large U.S. cities at no cost.  Our affiliation with a large consumer magazine company allows us to market our travel partners unlike any of the host agencies.  Also, the Vacation 800 Travel Network will set aside a percentage amount dedicated for a marketing fund for the individual travel partner, provided a minimum annual sales goal is reached.  A full list of benefits are available by clicking here.

Q: Will I be an employee of the Vacation 800 Travel Network?

A: No.  You are an independent contractor utilizing the Vacation 800 Travel Network connections with travel suppliers.  You receive commission on your sales and no taxes are deducted from your earnings.  And as an independent contractor, you would be entitled to certain business tax deductions.  (See your tax consultant for exact details.)

Q: Speaking of  commission, how much will I earn?

A: The amount of commission you earn is based on the amount of your commissionable sales.  You can earn anywhere from 60% to 90% of the commission.  The more you sell, the more you make.

Q: Do I have to have experience in selling travel?

A: No.  If you’re looking for a way to earn extra income at your leisure, selling travel is a great way to accomplish it.  But those with plenty of experience are also welcome to join the fastest growing home-based opportunity in the area.

Q: Can I sell travel to anyone in the United States?

A: There are no restrictions as far as territory.  You can book clients living anywhere in the United States, Canada or any of the U.S. territories.

Q: Does the Vacation 800 Travel Network provide training?

A: Absolutely!  If you are someone who does not have a lot of travel experience, we offer you a variety of online recorded training sessions.  And if you prefer, we can offer in person training for a small fee.  For those who have been in the industry for a while and have a vast knowledge of selling travel, we constantly offer remedial training on ship and/or itinerary updates, new trends in the travel industry and much more.  We also offer quarterly training sessions with travel industry representatives, such as cruise line business development directors, travel insurance representatives and others.

Q: Is there a minimum amount of time I have to work every day?

A: You can work as much or as little as you wish.  Of course, the more you sell, the more you make.

Q: What kind of travel will I sell?

A: You can sell almost every kind of travel available.  From ocean cruises to all-inclusive land vacations; from river cruises to hotel stays; from wedding and honeymoon packages to African safaris.  It’s up to you and what your clients want.

Q: Do I need any special equipment in order to join the Vacation 800 Travel Network?

A: Special equipment?  No.  However, you will need a Windows based PC with internet access and PDF readable software, available as a fre download.  (Mac computers are also supported with limited capabilities.)

Q: Do I need to set up a website?

A: Not unless you want to.  All of the Vacation 800 Travel Network professional travel partners are listed on our website with their contact information.  Each professional travel partner will also be given an email such as  However, if you wish to use your own email address, that works just as well.  You can get as simple or as advanced as you wish.

Q: Once I join the Vacation 800 Travel Network, is there a term of the agreement?

A: There is an initial 6 month term, which is needed to set up the technical connections for our professional travel partners to begin selling travel through the Vacation 800 Travel Network.  Following the initial term agreement, you can stay for as long as you like.

Q: If I go on vacation, will the Vacation 800 Travel Network assist my clients while I’m gone?

A: Yes.  We will provide client customer service for a maximum of two weeks per year.  An hourly rate will apply after that.

Q: Is there ever an opportunity for me to travel for free?

A: Sure is!  When you book a group, the travel suppliers often offer complimentary accommodations based on a specific minimum number of reservations.  If you reach that number, your base fare is paid.  (Base fare is the cost of the trip, which does not include any additional service, port or government taxes and fees.)

Q: Does the Vacation 800 Travel Network have groups I can sell into?

A: Yes you can take advantage of our group pricing thereby being able to offer your clients a better price or better amenities that you normally would be able to offer.

Q: I see on your website a CLIA logo and I have heard of something called IATA or IATAN.  What re those?

A: These are travel industry associations that help and promote the travel industry.  Travel agencies are members of these organizations and a membership is required to receive sales commissions.  The good news is you don’t have to worry because you would be covered under the Vacation 800 Travel Network affiliation.
